FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION Volunteer Jobs List ***Babysitting Volunteer The babysitting volunteer will sit with the shelter children while clients go off-site to a weekly support group, FVP classes, or appointments. Requirements: 6 hours of domestic violence orientation by staff and 4 hours of supervised training with staff or qualified volunteer; ability to work with groups of children of various understanding and ability; confidentiality. Child Advocate The child advocate will work with staff to promote programs for children of all ages at the shelter and help staff at support group. Requirements: 6 hours of domestic violence orientation training by staff and 4 hours of supervised training with staff or qualified volunteer; prior training or experience with children's issues; clear understanding of confidentiality; ability to work with children who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused. ***Hotline Volunteer The Hotline Volunteer answers the phone and maintains order at the shelter when staff are not available. Answering the Hotline includes taking messages for clients and staff, handling crisis calls counseling persons needing assistance, and giving general information to callers with questions regarding our services. Requirements: 6 hours of orientation training and 4 hours of supervised training with staff or qualified volunteer; clear understanding of confidentiality; excellent phone and organizational skills; attention to detail; sensitivity; ability to counsel regarding issues with domestic violence. ***General Repair Volunteer The general repair volunteer will repair minor problems at the shelter. Requirements: A clear understanding of confidentiality; sensitivity to issues of domestic violence; experienced in general repair and maintenance of buildings. ***Overnight Volunteer The overnight volunteer will relieve the regular shelter manager and in her absence be responsible for her duties. Requirements: 6 hours of orientation training with staff and 4 hours of supervised hotline training with staff or qualified volunteer; clear understanding of confidentiality; sensitivity; ability to counsel regarding issues with domestic violence. ***Court Advocate Assist victims with obtaining court orders and going to court with victims.
